Mission Statement

Larkin’s marks a new era in soul food, with dishes characterized by old recipes of the South combined with dynamic contemporary flavors and preparation techniques. Chef Larkin Mackey brings years of experience combining traditional soul food with his Californian upbringing to his restaurant. The Latin flavors of California cuisine spark up his traditional fare, while his schooling in French and Asian gastronomy have influenced the artistic expression and presentation of his dishes. Mackey brings youth and vitality to his cuisine, without sacrificing the comfort, textures, and flavors that make soul food so rich and satisfying.

Deep colors, warm fabrics, and the art of local artists on the walls impart a juke joint ambiance to the dining rooms and al fresco areas—but with a contemporary twist. Larkin’s features a modern sound system, and special nights with live jazz music enrich the atmosphere and compliment the art and cuisine. The informal, lounge-like setting recalls the height of the Harlem Renaissance and home cooking at mama them’s house. The combination of excellent food, great surroundings, and beautiful art make Larkin’s a Los Angeles landmark and a place where people want to come eat again and again.
